I picked through the wood pile and found a nice piece of seasoned Hard Maple with some small knots. I cut a chunk off just short of the knots so the grain would be twirly at the contact point. The handle is White Ash. Click photo for more info...

I got the stump from some county workers that took a dead tree out of a park. I thought most of the group would have access to a table saw and it might be safer than with a chain saw. Also the turned rim is a good place for a clamping ring. George Hawkin
