The part is the chin for Wayne Roger's Ascot. This is just an experiment using the buck/hammerform that we had left over from the First MSA FormFest where we built an aluminum body skin.

Doing it the hard way (one piece) by hand. Using the annular raising technique, I begin hammering around the edge. This technique could have been used all the way to completion, but tucking was used in addition.

Long tucks are formed just to sho the amount of shrinking necessary. To make the shrinking process easier -- few tucks should have been formed at one time. More room is needed to hammer each tuck.

Tucks of this size can get out-of-hand if you aren't careful. One of these tucks was about to get folded over -- so I flattend it our some before proceeding.

Although at a point it looks hopeless -- the hammered tucks begine to give way to a finished part.

The buck/hammerform was really not hard enough to handle the heavy tuck shrinking. A solid metal ball was used to finish the shrinking.

Almost finished. Still needs to be trimmed and smoothed just a little more.

A much easier way is to make the part from two pieces. A little shaping is done with the mallet -- but the process is speeded up using tucks.

After tucks have ben hammered down. This would have been much smoother had it been done on the steel ball.

This is getting the bottom piece pretty close. I'll smooth it a little more with a wheeling machine.

With the part held in place by clamping the flat spot -- it is marked for trimming.

A sykes Pickavant hand trimmer is used for a clean cut.

The bottom piece trimmed. It will be tightened up in a few places, smoothed a little and welded to the upper portion.
